The Year 4/5 pupils deepened their understanding of adding two or more proper fractions where the total was greater than 1. The children then recorded their totals as an improper fraction and converted this to a mixed number using their prior knowledge. As children progressed through the small steps they used different representations to support their understanding of the abstract.
