A personal tour of the branch is held with the head, you will get acquainted with the infrastructure, get acquainted in detail with the training program and ask any questions you may have
ENS specialists strive to get to know each child as well as possible during the first meeting. In our approach, psychological and pedagogical assessment is more of an expert consultation or an interview conducted in a playful, dialogue-based format. During this meeting, the teacher, psychologist, and speech therapist carefully observe the child’s behavior and listen to their speech, as much as is possible within the hour-long interaction with the child and their parents.
ENS welcomes children aged 2 to 10
You may wonder why the question of a child’s readiness arises at all, especially at the preschool stage. In this matter, our specialists strictly follow the principle of “do no harm.”
A simple analogy: sensible parents would never teach a child to swim by throwing them into the water, aware of the possible negative consequences of such decisiveness. One child might scream with joy from the unexpected thrill, while another could be traumatized for life and develop a fear of water. The same can happen with a fear of kindergarten as well. A more balanced and wise approach is to introduce a child to water gradually.
Entering a new language and communication environment likewise requires a period of adaptation, which may last several months. During this time, our specialists need to develop a tailored support strategy for each child throughout this challenging transition.
Is ENS the Right Fit for Your Child?
Your First Visit and Introduction to ENS
For your very first visit to ENS together with your child, it is extremely important to set a positive tone. After all, your child is not coming for an exam, but rather to visit people who are genuinely happy to meet them — to play together and talk about everything that matters to the child. The introduction takes place in the classroom of the age group the child is most likely to join in the future.
Your child will have access to a wide variety of toys and games, among which they will surely single out favorites or discover new ones that spark their curiosity. We don’t need to ask what your child enjoys doing — we will see it for ourselves. A psychologist will assess the child’s temperament, personality, interests, level of sociability, and readiness for adaptation, while the teacher will observe the child’s reaction to a new foreign language, which in itself may become a discovery.
It is not uncommon for children to honestly tell their parents and other adults right away that “people don’t speak that kind of language!” During one assessment, four-year-old Dasha spent about 30 minutes with our English-speaking teacher Sarah and then ran to her mother to announce, “Sarah isn’t Russian!” This discovery, however, did not prevent her from immediately running back to Sarah to continue playing.
Within 2–3 days after the psychological and pedagogical assessment, our specialists, if necessary, provide parents with recommendations to help prepare the child for ENS and gently adjust the child’s daily routine so that it aligns with the overall rhythm of life at ENS. For example, some children are “night owls” and need to be gradually transitioned to a kindergarten-friendly schedule. Parents also receive such recommendations if enrollment is declined; in this case, the next meeting is scheduled no earlier than 3–6 months later.
Traditionally, the number of families wishing to attend ENS exceeds the number of available places. In fact, during the psychological and pedagogical assessment, we already begin forming the future group. When selecting new pupils, we take into account factors that are important for creating a healthy psychological environment within the group, such as gender balance and individual temperament traits.
