In January, the Reception group studies the topic “Art” in line with the curriculum. As part of this theme, teachers discussed different types of art, as well as artists and architects from various periods. The children explored masterpieces of painting and sculpture by famous creators and even tried making their own artworks.
The highlight of the topic was a visit to the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. The aim of the trip was to introduce children to contemporary art, including its complexity and symbolism. At the time, the museum was hosting a fairly serious exhibition, “Evidence: Francisco Goya, Sergei Eisenstein, Robert Longo.” It was especially interesting that the museum offers children’s programmes even on such complex themes.
Our guide, Daria, showed the group key works by each of these outstanding artists and explained the ideas behind them. The curious children asked many questions and shared their impressions of what they had seen and heard.
