Maslenitsa at ENS

On a frosty day, February 16, traditional Russian festivities unfolded at the ENS Dobrynya campus.

Before heading outside, the little ones watched a film about the traditions and history of Maslenitsa and then shared their impressions with friends and teachers. The children were curious about why people traditionally eat pancakes all week and what games are usually played. The young learners were delighted and amazed to discover that a skomorokh (a traditional folk entertainer) was waiting for them outdoors with games, songs, and dancing—and that Winter herself soon joined in too. She had no intention of leaving just yet and stayed to play with the children!

The children took part in a tug-of-war, had pillow fights, played “Golden Gates” and “Freezy-Tag,” danced in a circle, and competed in relay races while riding on brooms.
