Chinese New Year at ENS Mosfilm

On February 16, on the new moon, China celebrated the New Year according to the Eastern calendar—the Year of the Earth Dog.

In the days leading up to the holiday, the Year 2 class (ages 6–7) explored Eastern culture, practiced yoga, and even tried meditation. The highlight of their learning was the New Year celebration itself: all children received an invitation with a dress code—“wear red” or “Chinese style.” The whole class had never arrived at school as early as they did that day.

Happy girls and boys received compliments on their beautiful outfits and eagerly anticipated the events ahead. The biggest surprise was the group teacher’s special entrance: Mr Daniel appeared dressed in a Chinese-style robe and even created a traditional hairstyle using whatever he had on hand (sushi chopsticks!). The children were absolutely thrilled. After a quick goodbye to their parents, everyone rushed into the classroom to discover new and unusual facts about how the New Year is celebrated in China.

That day, the children ate real Chinese dumplings with chopsticks and took part in a tea ceremony. The colourful day ended with fireworks and fortune cookies—each with a personal wish for the year ahead.
